Stories of Lakeside
Amy, aged 62, is a dedicated befriender and a volunteer performer for our Ukulele group at Kaki Kampong Seniors Wellness (KKSW).
With steady support, Amy gained confidence and is now volunteering actively. Over the past year, she has built meaningful relationships with her beneficiaries, encouraging them to stay positive and to continue to press on during difficult times. Through her cheerful spirit and dedication, she brings joy and purpose to their days, giving them something to look forward to and empowering them to pick up new skills along the way.
Among those Amy journeys with is a senior who undergoes dialysis several times a week and finds it hard to leave the house. She visits him regularly and encourages him to join KKSW’s programmes. She also looks forward to teaching him to use his new smartphone to stay connected with his friends and family, and to be more tech-savvy.
Through volunteering at KKSW, Amy has discovered strengths and talents she never knew she had. Besides volunteering in the Ukulele group and befriending, she now facilitates programmes and emcees events. More importantly, she has found within herself a deep sense of love and patience for the seniors she journeys with. Today, Amy feels empowered and confident to continue giving back to the community.
We are thankful for volunteers such as Amy who are walking alongside us to help our beneficiaries take the small steps towards their big dreams. You too can play a part, be it by volunteering your time, or donating to help us to continue run our programmes for seniors, children, youths, ex-inmates and their families.
