About the Artist – Dr Ng Guat Tin

Though exposed to watercolour and oil painting in childhood, it was only in her senior years that Dr Ng’s interest in painting was rekindled when teaching in Hong Kong. Since 2009, she has done mostly acrylic painting and participated in several joint art exhibitions in Hong Kong and Singapore. A solo exhibition of 34 of her paintings was held from January to June 2020 in collaboration with the Singapore Botanic Gardens, to illustrate the vibrancy of Singapore’s nature.

About the Artist – Mr Raymond Lau Poo Seng

Mr Raymond Lau Poo Seng’s path to success as an artist has not been easy. Afflicted with Tourette Syndrome since the age of 7, Raymond has lived with this neurological disorder for much of his life, and is given to sudden, involuntary movements or utterances. Born under humble family circumstances, Raymond did not fare well in the competitive Singapore school system, except in art and music.

Raymond then went on to complete his Bachelor degree in Fine Arts in 1995 from the University of Tasmania. Recognition for the mastery of his young talent culminated in the Young Artist Award for 2001, bestowed by the National Arts Council of Singapore. His life should serve as an inspiration to those born with disabilities, but beyond that, his paintings should continue to speak as a Singaporean soul to illuminate the human condition.
